Kikka and puppies (2 weeks old, 2008)

The puppies now all have eyes, and not just little "cracks". It is obvious that they have some sense of things moving close to them, or rather, sensitivity to light/shadows is more like it. Their little heads are no longer just flat on the bottom of the box, but "popping up" like little periscopes, trying to turn in different directions and learn the use and special effects of this new "feature" - their vision.
They are also trying hard already to get up on their feet, but it doesn't last yet.
The puppies' ears have not yet opened, but they can hear themselves "inside the head"...so today, we have had several "growling practices" going on. It happens that the "sight" of a sibbling nearby automatically makes them growl, and what that apparently sounds like inside of their heads, is so interesting, that once they start, they can't stop. It is a hoot to see a couple of little helpless puppies just "go to town" growling for no apparent reason, and at no apparent object, other than for the heck of it.
Please do not inquire about this litter, we already have homes waiting.

Kikka is still spending all her time closeby the puppies, or in the box with them. She will often choose to lay on the lenoleum outside of the box, monitoring and responding to their every little sound, while keeping cool.
She comes into our bed at night, as if she would like to sleep there, but she quickly changes her mind, and goes to settle in with her puppies for the night, and stays there all night. She is still very protective towards Maddy, even though it is suspected that part of the "protection show" is in regards to her food, which sits out to her availability at all times, as much as it is regarding the puppies.
The entire "gang" has had their first de-worming, and everybody is doing really, really good.
