Kikka and puppies (week 1b, 2008)
,
During the first week all five puppies have gained satisfactory in weight and are doing great. Not one is slacking behind, they all eat with great determination - obviously the goal being to be the fattest and roundest little Farmdog puppies around!
Kikka is taking very good care of them, and spends all day and night with them. Towards the end of the week, she has resumed to want to come along on short 10-15 minute walks, that is the most she feels like being away for, until then, she'd only rush out to do her business, and rush straight back in.
Kikka is very protective of the puppies towards Maddy, so we are respecting that and supporting that Maddy not meet the puppies yet. Maddy understands, and is doing her darndest to behave as if she doesn't care. She is only waiting for the right opportunity - no doubt, she'd go visit behind everybody's back, at first given chance.
Please do not inquire about this litter, we already have homes waiting.
We thank you for your understanding.

The issue about which box to have the puppies in during this week has been a major one, and has been very frustrating.
The puppies were very obviously not all that happy about being in the bottom of Kikka's kennel, because during the day, it would get too hot in there. Kikka wanted to be there because of the tall sides, making her feel safe and enclosed.
Creating a card board box (not so hot and enclosed as the rubber box) with tall sides was for a start a fair compromise. But soon the card board box just became too confined and too hot also, the puppies were very un-settled, acting border line stressed, and crying very loud, which stressed Kikka.
Even though the big box seemed too big and very easy for the puppies to get lost in, moving them into it, settled them instantly. However, now Kikka was crying and whining, because the large box didn't seem as safe and enclosed to her.
Given this was taking place 2 nights in a row, on the wrong side of midnight, the decision was: "Rather Kikka crying, than the puppies", and so it was. At the end of the week also Kikka seems to be content with this solution, no-body is lost, and Greta has inherited the card board box, which she loves!
Someone has been making "barking sounds", but remains un-identified.
