Kikka and puppies, 5 weeks old
,
5 weeks and very skillful
|
Now the little legs will finally run and jump, and follow the directions the brain wants to! That helps, when wanting to live fast, and when the eyes and ears catches things of interest from a distance.
We are having fantastic weather, so every day, and many times a day, often for a full hour at the time, the puppies are running the energy off outside, and developing all of their skills doing so. They are investigating the large back yard, they play catch, they "taste" everything, and Maddy or mama Kikka invites them for a race of "catch me if you can" teaching them the adult dogs' "turn on a dime" techniques.
The house inside is getting smaller to this "gang" by the minute it seems, and I have to "invent" indoor types of games we can play, which doesn't necessarily have the otherwise highly anticipated ingredient "let's destroy the house and everything in it"...
Please be adviced, that we might take a few days on responding to e-mails from friends and family.
We thank You for Your patience.
We do currently not respond to new puppy inquiries.

Been riding by car
This week the puppies have been on a couple of car rides. The first time after they had played really hard, and were all very tired and well fed, and had pottied. They all slept together in the kennel in the back seat, and went around town running errands with me. They did great!
The next trip they were also tired out well, but were more awake, and they all rested and were quiet and relaxed, going to visit the office at my work. At the office they quickly overcame the new scents and sounds, and came out of the kennel, and were soon tearing around playing, as if they were at home. They met several of my collegues, and greeted all with the same adorable and friendly enthusiasm.

Peak into puppy life
As expected many roles have been swapped around several times over. Donald and Daffy seem to take turns in running the show, and both be content with that arrangement, and Daphne is trying to buddy up to them. All 5 are very outgoing and curious, and very chipper, happy, and joyful, always just pushing for recognition and attention of humans, little tails wagging all the time. Anybody sitting on the floor will have 5 puppies jumping and crawling all over them!
The puppies' daily routine begins with a trip outside in the morning, where it seems like they have already learned to do the "big business"...we have very little of that at night, and always on the piddle pads! As for the smaller business, we're still working on the memory, which in the heat of the game doesn't always reach that far.
After the first trip outside, Kikka will usually feed the puppies a snack, and then they'll tear around and play, while Kikka and Maddy eat their breakfast. Soon the puppies get their "solid" food breakfast, and that ends "round one"...the nap breaks are shorter and shorter each day, so as long as the weather allows, the puppies outside time gets increased proportionally...nothing knocks them out, as the outdoors!
During the day the puppies are fed puppy mush several times, and Kikka feeds them many times daily as well. She is also playing with them a lot, teaching them, bringing them up, and being the referee of their games. In the evening she feeds them late, and then she sleeps in our bed, until in the very early morning, then she goes into feed the puppies and play with them for a bit.
The puppies are now starting to play more interactive games with us, i.e. they are learning the fun of tug. Kikka helps that as well, she loves a good tug, and is a master of teasing the puppies with a toy, to get them to grab the other end.
The puppies are also very interested in dry food kibble now, and are trying very hard to chew it with their little teeth. One kibble can take a lot of time and efforts!
A very enjoyable detail: All of the puppies drop everything they are doing, and come RUNNING just as fast as they can, when I call them. They are an incredible bunch, causing so many laughs and smiles all day long!
Roads trips are on the way for these 5, and I expect them to manage that, as if it's a breeze...first we go visit Greta's puppies...

Little Denmark's Delovely Dory 5 weeks old
Head from the front

Now 3 lbs 7 oz/1556 grams
First thinking and learning game
The puppies love this game...an empty paper towel roll with kibble inside and ends mashed flat...
the noses tell them there is food in there
and they'll all keep working at it, taking shifts, until it is empty
Playing with mom
Wacking Mom can have consequenses...
...such as "smell my breath and measure my teeth puppy"
Kikka grabs the puppies over the muzzle as part of the up-bringing
One more needs to smell mom's breath...
Reaching back to grab another pup by the muzzle too
And as all Mothers, this one multi tasks too
Bringing one up behind her, and "flinging one off" in front of her, at the same time
Casual Kikka
While Dory feels she's got her victim by the scuff, Kikka is casually licking her leg, as if she doesn't even exist
A typical Daffy and Donald "discussion"
which is not about the weather...
HEY I'm Daffy duck and this is my buddy...
...what kind of duck did you say you are???!!!
