Greta's and Kikka's puppies meeting...
,
9 Farmdog puppies and 2 Mothers
|
At this visit Greta's puppies are just 2 days short of being 5 weeks old, and Kikka's puppies are 5 1/2 weeks. At this age, 5 days can make a huge difference in the development, because the development happens at such great speed. Therefore there is a concern in bringing 2 litters together, as far as the older puppies "bullying" the younger puppies, thus making the experience bad for them.
In order to avoid that, we enclosed Kikka's puppies, and let Greta's puppies out, just to see, what would happen. At that time it was obvious that the 2 Mother dogs, Greta and Kikka, were getting along just fine, but they also know each other very well, and have periodically lived with each other.
Greta's puppies bee-lined to the x-pen to meet the strangers, and they were quickly playing with one another through the fence. Then we let one of the older puppies out to the others one by one, and watched the play. On a few occasions we did have to pull one of the bigger ones off of a younger puppy, but there was definitely no "trauma" involved, Greta's pups stand up for themselves, and don't shy back at all. They are just not physically as strong, so some human "fairness" was added to the play.
Once all the puppies had been running and playing, and the little legs got tired, they all piled into a little kennel and totally pooped out.
Nothing ties friendships, as sleeping together, and once the puppies woke up and were hungry, even the Mothers figured it didn't matter who belonged to who, and fed each others' pups without objecting. In particular did a large "gang" of mixed puppies pin Greta down, and the whole pack was trying to feed off of her.
This was just TONS of puppy fun for sure, and we will definitely get the 2 litters together again!!!
Please do not inquire about this litter, they already have homes waiting for them.
We thank you for your understanding.
