Kikka and puppies (week 4a, 2006)
,
At age 3 week it is time to learn...developing of skills and having new experiences begin, for these 2 little ladies, they begin with the real introduction to a gentle aunt Maddy.
They still haven't quite figured out, that she is a "double" of their Mother, their universe sort of only has one large dog in it, and that is defined mainly by "food".
It seems as this dawns on them, that the little girls and big girl Maddy are equally frustrated about the lack of this commodity!
Potty training has started, the box has been expanded and now has a piddle pad installed. Both puppies have already been seen using it! It is their natural instinct to walk away from their sleeping area to go potty, utilizing this is how house breaking begins.
Please be adviced, that we might take a few days on responding to e-mails from friends and family.
We thank You for Your patience.
We do currently not respond to new puppy inquiries.

PLAY!
Both puppies are more and more "consumed" by the infatuation of play. It is obvious, that everything is potentially qualifying as toys, including the Sister.
Their play is practice of all sorts of skills, which include vision, nose, ears and last but not least, those ever so hard to control "dang" legs. The mind wants to do it, so why don't the legs just follow along?
This leads to many comical little "oopses", including quite a bit of tumbling and nose dives. Determination is strong though, and for every "miss", they just get better and better, but mostly, they sleep on it for a while, before next "round".

Family union.
Maddy and Kikka are working out some sort of understanding at this time, partly due to that Kikka is having to watch, that the puppies now have a mind of their own, and will walk away from her, and up to Maddy.
Maddy has sort of taken a few "liberties" in entering the box, when Kikka isn't in there, she very much craves to be with the puppies, once a Mama dog, always a Mama dog.
In this regard Maddy has been observed conducting several actions totally controlled by instinct. For a few days she got the idea of stealing food from Kikka, thereby over-eating, and saving little "vomit depots" for the puppies in our blankets. This is a very ancient instinct, this is how Farmdogs often wean their puppies; by throwing up food for them. Only trouble is, these are not Maddy's puppies. But we cannot explain that to her, as well as we can't control her so basic and primitive, yet rather fascinating instincts.
Another very intuitive action is, that she strongly senses the puppies' insecurities. If she is hoping for them to come over to her, she will make herself "little and un-scary" by laying down, just to make them feel confident and less intimidated. We unfortunately missed the shot where she rolled over on her back and "froze", to let the puppies examine her closely.
Maddy is a very clever and considerate little Auntie, and she wants the puppies to like her and trust her.
We think they will...
